Good Sports at Woodside
Woodside Cricket Club
JOINS NEW PROGRAM
13 August 2008
Sports clubs such as ours play a significant role in the community and therefore have a responsibility to our members and their families. In recognition of this, the Woodside Cricket Club has elected to participate in the GOOD SPORTS program.
The program aims to make clubs more viable by assisting with the responsible management of alcohol through the development of a code of conduct. It is the first nationwide alcohol management program of its kind. This does not mean "no alcohol" - it just means that we will be ensuring that alcohol is managed responsibly at our Club.
As a community based club we believe involvement in this program is a way for our club to promote a healthy and welcoming club culture whilst working to consistently meet our duty of care obligations in regards to alcohol consumption. To become GOOD SPORTS Level One accredited we have addressed a number of criteria including having Responsible Service of Alcohol trained bar staff.
GOOD SPORTS is managed in this State by Drug & Alcohol Services SA and proudly supported by the Motor Accident Commission (MAC). The program receives national funding from the Alcohol Education Rehabilitation Foundation and was developed following research conducted by the Australian Drug Foundation that showed by introducing responsible alcohol management policies, clubs were able to improve membership and enhance viability.
