Mick Moller
Mick was retired when he came to live in Woodside in the early 90’s. Every Saturday he would watch the cricket from his car and after the game he would come to the clubrooms, have a social tale and then head home.
As he became known to the club members he was enticed back to the club as bar manager. He ran the bar for 3 seasons and lifted the profit margin as well as the turnover markedly. He was also an educator of future bar managers – Darryl Langbein and Rick Hill.
Mick was a very strong advocator of promoting our juniors as well as giving them the best possible coaching and training facilities. Micks support of the juniors went as far as the Fleurieu North U/16 team. He attended at least 4 carnivals and over the carnival he became the patron saint of the team.
The Mick Moller Award was first presented in the season of Mick’s death. It was initially designed to reward the efforts of Under 21’s who went beyond just playing cricket. This has changed now to being awarded to a person that has a significant involvement with the junior section of the club.
