Rick Hill
Rick has already reached legend status at the club, just by going to the local service station, filling up the car with petrol and then driving off without paying. Unfortunately or fortunately Rick was well known to Jim who caught up with him after Rick had finished his day at the cricket.
Rick is the only player that has represented Woodside on the cricket field in every season since 1981. It reduced to one game this season, so he will have to work on his fitness to continue that record. Over the journey Rick has totalled 347 games, over 2000 runs, with more than 100 not outs and then to complete the trifecta, he has bowled almost 3000 overs for a return of 543 wickets.
He has played in 2 'A' grade premierships and 3 'A2' premierships. His most memorable effort was in the 2nd 'A' grade premiership (1987/88) where with Steve Hahesy moved the score from 9/91 to a defendable 144. A partnership of 53 runs that effectively won us that premiership.
As well as his playing efforts, Rick has assisted the club with many varied roles from secretary, junior chairman, junior coach, and social committee. He was available for many working bees when these facilities were established in his career at Woodside. He has seen training facilities grow from centre wicket to 5 nets, which allows for great training. He has seen the main oval grow from a 3/4 oval, to what it is today and a second oval being established - the envy of all clubs in the association. The club has grown from 2 senior teams and one junior team, to senior teams to at least 5 and a minimum of of 8 junior teams. He has seen the club use these two ovals as well as investigate an oval at Charleston, then the Army Camp for training, as well as matches, a pitch put in at the Woodside Primary School, then matches at Forest Range and Oakbank Area School.
So one of the reasons Rick has played so many years, has been his family. Initially he had great support from his Mum and Dad and since then, had amazing support from his wife Michelle. With 2 sons now playing senior cricket, I am sure that Rick's role at Woodside Cricket Club will continue in some capacity.
To Rick on behalf of the legends the lat Peter Johns (who would be as pleased as punch) and myself, I welcome you to this exclusive club - well earnt and well deserved.
